Dennis Williams
Director, Writer
Director Dennis Williams II was born and raised in Columbia, Maryland, as the eldest of three boys. He studied theatre in college and was a Division 1 basketball player before packing his entire life into two duffle bags and catching a bus to New York City, where he held an early writing & directing role at the production company Funny or Die. After cutting his teeth on the indie film scene and gaining recognition, he relocated to Los Angeles in 2020.
Dennis learned the trade among thespians but fell in love with commercial films that made a cultural impact. His obsession with being a historian through film—capturing moments in time—has deeply influenced his directing style. He’s known for using continuous one-shots and intimate character depictions to evoke a sense of nostalgia, achieved through a particular approach to symmetry and texture. This unique blend of techniques has defined his signature style, making his cinematic language both culturally resonant and visually compelling.
In 2020, he was chosen for Vanishing Angle’s Short-to-Feature Lab by Sundance alum Jim Cummings. Shortly after, his film "A Backyard in Baldwin Hills" was distributed by Issa Rae’s HOORAE productions.
Along the way, notable brands like Adidas, Dick's Sporting Goods, Compton Cowboys, Russell Westbrook’s Honor the Gift, and Love Renaissance have tapped Dennis to direct their projects. "RACE," which premiered at the 2023 Atlanta Film Festival, and "Dear Brodie" have garnered both press and award attention. Most recently, he directed the entire third season of Revolt’s signature television series, "Assets Over Liabilities."
Dennis has been recognized for his character-driven thrillers, which draw heavily from his own life experiences, and with a knack for storytelling, he aims to blend his narrative style with commercial projects.
